제목: Letter from the Committee on Ministry
“We believe that God, in a world of injustice and enmity, is in a special way the God of the destitute, the poor, and the wronged.” –The Belhar Confession
April 8, 2021
To the Minister Members of Lehigh Presbytery:
We, the members serving on the Committee on Ministry, publicly declare our affirmation to all those who mourn and protest the Black, Indigenous, and Asian lives lost due to mass shootings, police brutality, and white supremacy. We lament with the families, friends, and communities affected.
We are called to stand against sinful systems of racism and white supremacy. This includes discrimination, hate, and murder. We confess as a denomination, presbytery, and leaders of the Church our own contribution to upholding these systems of oppression. Now more than ever, we acknowledge silence, in the face of such evil, is unjust.
Therefore, we affirm, support, advocate for, and encourage clergy and ministries who teach and preach racial reconciliation and justice, as that is found in the Gospel. Each of us are called to carry Jesus’ message of love, healing, and justice as Micah 6:8 inspires our lives and our calls to “seek justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.” Continue to stand for justice, liberation, and freedom for the oppressed; we stand with you. This is part of your vow made in ordination to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, love your neighbors, and work for the reconciliation of the world.
We invite you to join us in self-reflection, prayer, and advocacy as systems of racism and white supremacy continue to plague our world. If in need of conversation or support, please reach out to the Committee on Ministry, Presbytery Antiracism Task Force, or the Presbytery Office. For more information, resources, or to get involved; please contact the Antiracism Task Force at office@lehighpresbytery.org.
Thank you for your ministry of justice, healing, reconciliation, and love.
Blessings,
The Committee on Ministry
